About National Rail Museum
The idea of the National Rail Museum was introduced by Micheal Graham Satow in 1970, and the idea turned into a concrete reality in 1971; then-President V. V. Giri laid the foundation of this Museum at Chanakyapuri in Delhi. The Museum took 6 years to complete and was inaugurated on 1st February 1977. After some years, the Museum’s name was changed to the National Rail Museum. Inside the Museum, you will witness the legacy of Indian and British railways in each part. It also provides detailed information about the Railway’s evolution over the years. These carriages, wagons, and rail cars will give you first-hand experience, which you will forever cherish.
Where is the National Rail Museum?
The National Rail Museum is located in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, and displays the great history of Indian Rail. The Museum is spread over 11 acres, with an indoor gallery and railway yard. The Museum opens every day except Monday. Though you can find various open space parks in Chanakyapuri, the National Rail Museum remains at the top. Here, you can watch documentaries based on the Railway in the Auditorium.
