The Itimad ud Daulah Tomb famously known as Baby Taj Mahal is situated on the left bank of river Yamuna next to Chini-ka-Rauza. Itimad-ud-Daulah was the designation given to Mirza Ghiyath Beg, father of Nur Jahan. He had the post of Lord of Treasure of the empire and subsequently rose to the dignity of Wazir under Jahangir. Nur Jahan completed the structure of the building of the Tomb of her father in 1628 AD, nearly 7 years after his death. 

The tomb is built at the center of a quadrangle with gardens laid out on the Char Bagh design surrounding it. This is the first tomb made of marble. The cenotaphs and walls of the Tomb hold inscriptions in Persian. The wall inscriptions are from the Quran and other holy texts, while the cenotaph descriptions state the names and titles of those interned.

How to Reach Itimad Ud Daulah Tomb?

By Air

The nearest airport is Agra Airport (AGR) – 7 km from the Itimad-ud-Daulah Tomb. The airline connectivity from Agra is not good, so you may prefer to fly to Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. From New Delhi, Agra can be accessed by road within 3-4 hours.

By Train

Agra is also well connected to the other important cities of the country with a railway network where so many trains run. The Chief railway station, Agra Cantt Railway Station, is located 6 km from the monument. You could hire a taxi or an auto-rickshaw from this railway station, or even the buses go up to that monument.

By Road
