Prasanna Chennakeshava Temple, famously known as Somnathpur Temple is a religious site dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Situated near Mysore, the temple is embellished with Hoysala Architecture. Established on an elevated platform, it is a temple of three shrines, created in symmetry. Originally, it possessed idols of Lords Keshava, Janardhana, and Venugopala, however presently, it has only two idols as Lord Kesava is not available in the shrine.   

The temple has 16 16-point star shape, outer walls are adorned with beautiful carvings, including intricately carved stone plates and star-shaped folds. History of Chennakeshava Temple, Somanathpur

Discussing the Somanathapura temple History, Cheenakesava temple, Somanthpur was established in 1268 A.D. by Somanatha, the general of King Narasimha III During the rule of Hoysala. It is believed that for its construction, Dandanayaka Somanatha asked for the permission of King Narasimha III following the creation of a village on the Cauvery River- Somanathapura River. 

This temple is devoted to Lord Vishnu and it was created not to just worship the lord but also to experience the elegance of Hoysala architecture and creative craftsmanship. The entrance of the temple features a stone slab with the temple’s historical events marked on it. There were other Hoysala-style temples established in the city and destroyed due to the battles between the Hindu Kingdoms and Muslim Sultanates. Lakshmi Narasimha temple is an exception among them.
