Amrit Udyan timing is 10 AM to 5 PM. The last entry is permitted at 4 PM.  Due to its popularity and significance, the average number of visitors to this garden per day is more than 1000. It remains open all days of the week except Monday due to maintenance work.

Amrit Udyan is a well-known garden of Delhi, decorated with Mughal-style canals, terraces, and fountains. Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens for Lady Harding, the garden is the perfect blend of Mughal and British architectural elements. 

The garden has three parts – the Rectangular Garden, the Long Garden, and the Circular Garden, which are also known as the Pearl Garden, Butterfly Garden, and Circular Garden. The Rectangular Garden is a prominent garden, that got its name from water gardens. Besides, It is embellished with high walls and a shaded passageway built of sandstone. Established in 1928-29, Amrit Udyan was spread over a wide area of 15 acres. It was built by Sir Edwin Lutyens and resembles the Jammu and Kashmir Amrit Udyans, Indian and Persian murals and gardens near the Taj Mahal. William Mustoe, horticulture director was responsible for the designing aspects. According to the historical records, there were extensive deliberations between Lutyens and Mustoe regarding the establishment of two grand Mughal parks and the English flower garden. 

Amrit Udyan is decorated with tulips from the Netherlands, Japanese Brazilian orchids and cherry blossoms, and Chinese water lilies, etc, embracing the international flavor. Exhibiting the significance of Amrit Udyan,  Lady Emily Bulwer-Lytton described the aesthetics of Amrit Udyan In Christopher Hussey’s book “The Life of Sir Edwin Lutyens (1950)”, “flowers are set in such masses, producing a riot of color and scents that, when, with the fountains playing continually, there is not the least sense of stiffness”. 

The garden is open for public access in February and March as flowers get in their full bloom. Each year during these months, the popular festival Udyanotsav is organized, attracting visitors to experience the charm and grandeur.

In 2019, the Hindu Sabha demanded to rename the Amrit Udyans as Rajendra Prasad Udyan by referring to the first president of India, however, their demand was not accepted then. Later, on  January 28, 2023, the Union Indian Government rechristened the Mughal garden as Amrit Udyan.
